Watch the The Colonel's Recipe online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from 50 Blues Rhythms You MUST Know

We'll be talking about chord tones throughout this course. You'll often hear me say the root, 3rd, 5th, b7th etc. I know what it's like to not understand what this means.

A great player and friend of mine showed me this chord many years ago. I call it the "jazz" 7th chord. He called it the Colonel chord. He said this shape is a great way to really see what's going on inside a dominant 7th chord. From this shape you can clearly hear and see all of the chord tones and you can get an idea about what's called altered 7th chords.

To be honest, I don't use this I chord shape much but, it's a very important teaching tool. I had to show it to you. Feel free to use it but, I think you'll really like where we take it.
