Lots of great rhythms use riffs to create a melody or call and response feel.
In this example we'll stick with our A7 barre shape but we'll play a funky major pentatonic riff in between chord stabs. The 7th chord shape we're using for the IV and V chord may look familiar. You may have learned this as a C7 chord in the open position. This shape is perfectly legal and usable in any key.
We just have to be careful not to play the open first string. We actually could for the E7 but, let's not confuse ourselves. This is a great little 12 bar rhythm and there will be more like it. Have at it!
