Watch the Boom Boom Baby online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know
John Lee Hooker's “Boom Boom” is one of the most quoted tunes in blues history although the basic riff predates Mr. Hooker and is very similar to many early blues tunes. Based on an open E min pentatonic scale this riff is a template for many rock tunes to follow. The entire tune stays on the I chord and the riff 's tonality remains ambiguous, it is not really major nor minor, it is somewhere in between. That somewhere is where the beauty is.
