Watch the Keep Working that 3rd! online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 50 Blues Guitar Licks You MUST Know
Heard this lick before? This blues staple is a must know. But it is not as easy as it looks or sounds. I first learned it from listening to SRV, heck the majority of the “Texas Flood” solo is a variation on this lick. Then I heard Albert King and realized that Mr. Vaughan spent a lot of time with his records. The trick is the “in between” notes. The lick uses the b3, 3, 4, b5, and 5 and ¼ steps in between. Get this one under your fingers and you're really playing the blues.
