Watch the Mixology online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Sweet Blues Licks You MUST Know

This lick little darker as it sticks mostly to a more minor sound. This one incorporates a bend from the sixth to the flat seven on an E7 chord. This lick is somewhat reminiscent of something that Billy Gibbons might play, especially on the first few ZZ top records. If you're not too familiar with the early Billy Gibbons records, I highly suggest you dig in the first six ZZ Top records.

It's only been within the last 10 years that I've discovered early ZZ Top on more than a cursory level. I love when I discover an open secret! I knew Billy was excellent, but was primarily familiar with the hits, and you know how it can be - sometimes when you've heard a song so many times, you don't really hear it anymore. So, do me a favor, call up ZZ Top's first record called ZZ Top's First Album and give it a listen. Have mercy!
