Watch the Bettin' Man online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Sweet Blues Licks You MUST Know

Lick 8 is called "Bettin' Man", a classic lick in the style of Dickey Betts from the Allman Brothers Band. Here we see major pentatonic not sounding overtly bluesy, but more happy and Southern rock tinged. Spend a lot of time just messing around with straight major pentatonic to dig into that sound. It's hard not to channel the Allman Bros, for me anyway, but it's quite a useful scale and sound. I like this lick as it's a repeated melodic phrase that moves through the scale.
