Watch the South Bound online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Sweet Blues Licks You MUST Know

To round things off, let's take a look at another classic Allman Bros. staple lick. The phrase is a group of 6 notes before it repeats, so that can make it a little tricky, but once you get the feel of the lick, it's not too hard. Songs to check out by the Allman Brothers that really play up these kind of licks are "Jessica", "Blues Sky", "Rambling Man", and "Southbound". As you can see from the jam track I use, which has a Rolling Stones feel to it, this lick has many applications. As for what Allman Brothers records to have in your collection, I suggest any of them with both Dickey Betts and Duane Allman, and at the top of the list is the live album At Fillmore East, Brothers and Sisters and Eat a Peach. These guys define the genre of Southern rock.
