Watch the Bluesy Box online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Smokin' Blues-Rock Guitar Licks You MUST Know
Well I see watching the video after the fact that I play the lick a little differently a few times. Oh well, these shoots aren't easy my friend! But the idea is all there of this really great position of the pentatonic scale that I don't see used as much as others (except by Eric Clapton, that is).
It's basically what's often referred as "B.B.'s Box", but we're playing it an octave lower than where people usually play it. I first learned this from figuring out the live version of "Sleepy Time Time" from Live Cream where EC really works this position. It's pretty obvious once you see it, but I didn't play it for years. D'oh!
