Watch the Beck Bar online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Smokin' Blues-Rock Guitar Licks You MUST Know
It's impossible to play this lick without sounding like Jeff Beck. Is that a bad thing? Certainly not, especially when you are clear that someone will say "nice Beck lick!" after you play it! Certain guitar players are like Jupiter with their gravitational pull. Keep an eye out for not getting sucked in. You can use the gravity to do a flyby and slingshot into another orbit, or your own orbit.
OK, I am a space nerd, but what I am saying it true. It can be very easy to sound like some of our heroes. How many SRV clones can you think of off the top your head? Eddie clones? Gilmour clones? I can think of many, often I was one of them as well. I remember playing a gig and some guy comes up to me and says "Man you sound great! You have all that Jeff Beck stuff together!" He was paying me a compliment but I wanted to go home and hide. Did I sound like Beck? No, I sounded like someone who didn't have a voice of their own. It's "easy" to sound like someone else, on the surface at least. But that person already exists. Be your own person, it's a loner way to go, but much more satisfying.
