Watch the Main Drive online guitar lesson by Robbie Laws from 30 Penta Sonic Blues Licks You MUST Know

A minor pentatonic box pattern #3.
This scale position was a main staple for B.B. King. This is (as you know) box #3 in the key of A minor pentatonic, but it is also fondly known as “The B.B. Box”. This is where The King often resided, holding court over some of the greatest sounding major and minor licks of all time.

You'll start out on the G string with your 2nd finger at the 10th fret, then slide up to the 11th fret, and then up to the B string with a 8th note triplet playing the 10th fret with your index finger, the 12th fret with your 3rd finger, and to the 13th fret with your 4th finger. Then, there's some quick shifting back down to the 10th fret with your index finger to the 12th fret with your 3rd finger.

Now you go down to the G string at the 11th fret using your 2nd finger and then back up to the B string 10th fret with your 3rd finger, pulling-off to the 10th fret onto your index finger. Back to the 11th fret of the G string with your 2nd finger, and up to the B string with two bends at the 12th fret. The first bend will be a 1/4 step bend, and the second bend will be a full step bend from B up to C# the major 3rd of A.
