Watch the Highway Key online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Authentic Blues Grooves You MUST Know
This is the classic 8 bar blues best known as "Key To The Highway". Orginally written and recorded by pianist Charlie Segar in 1940, and later by Big Bill Broonzy, the Rolling Stones, and many others but maybe most famously by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman on the Layla record. The favored version in the blues world is by Little Walter. This great rendition made "Key to The Highway" a Chicago blues classic. How could it not with Muddy Waters on slide guitar, Willie Dixon on bass, Luther Tucker on guitar, Otis Spann on piano and Walter on vocals and harp. This is the consummate 8 bar blues tune that all others are based. I love whipping this one out on gigs.
