Watch the Killing Part 1 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Authentic Blues Grooves You MUST Know
Here is a take off on another Howlin' Wolf classic must know groove. "Killing Floor" is one of the definitive Chicago electric blues tunes featuring Hubert Sumlin on electric guitar and Buddy Guy on acoustic and was released on Chess records in 1964. Like all blues tunes it's important not to rush the feel on this one, which is often easy to do on an uptempo number. Really think about sitting into the groove, make sure you tap your foot or move your body! There are two distinct guitar parts here, the repeated bass line doubled by the guitar, and the chord based riff that runs throughout the tune. These riffs have become such a staple in the blues vocabulary that we can almost fit them anywhere.
