Watch the I'm Lonely online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from 30 Authentic Blues Grooves You MUST Know
Being able to play a solo, unaccompanied blues is not only fun and cool as all get out, it is essential. This tune is basically "Lonely Years" from the John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers featuring Eric Clapton. This one was a real high-water mark for me as well as the version of "Rambling on My Mind" from the same recording. If you don't have this record please get it immediately. Although not quite the same stylistically as Clapton, I suggest listening to Lightning Hopkins. Hopkins is one of the great blues men of all time. Hearing him lay down a solo blues is as good as it gets, his singing is some of the best.
