Watch the Rhythm Nation online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Blues Guitar Greatest Hits Vol. 3
Rhythm Nation is a video guitar lesson presented by Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons
Here is another great variation on a blues simpler to what Billy plays on "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", one of my favorite ZZ tunes. It is a take on a basic blues shuffle pattern with some cool variations, as usual. One of the tricks to getting this groove to sound its best is to keep the right-hand rhythm going by playing steady swing eighth notes. By keeping the right-hand going it helps provide propulsion and steady time to the rhythm guitar part. It lines up the downbeats and the upbeats perfectly with both our down and up picks. If you were to try to do the same rhythm without keeping the right-hand going, very often it does not sit right in the groove. Being that we live in the YouTube age, it takes no time at all to go online and take a look at how some great players perform some of these great tunes. Specifically if we watch Billy Gibbons play we can see that his right hand is always moving. Another great example of this technique is used by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
