She Loves My Car is a video guitar lesson presented by Play in the Style of Billy Gibbons
A staple blues lick that can work on the I, IV and V chords equally well. Here it is on the IV-I change. Mixing major and minor pentatonic in a slightly less common sound for the Rev. Note how he revisits the root-root slide but on a different string set. This lick works over the IV7 (D7) chord in an A blues and is a companion for the previous lick 'Lovely Auto'. This is something similar to what Billy plays on "She Loves My Automobile" from 1979's Degüello. On a side note, El Degüello is a bugle call, notable in the US for its use as a march by Mexican Army buglers during the 1836 Siege and Battle of the Alamo to signal that the defenders of the garrison would receive no quarter by the attacking Mexican Army. It also translates into English as "slit throat" or "slaughter", so now you can drop that bit of info at a party or on a ZZ Top trivia night. This link is very similar to what Jimmy Page plays on "Whole Lotta Love" and it works great on the D7 chord in this A blues as it essentially outlines a D7 arpeggio. D7 is spelled D-F#-A-C and as you can see we play all of those notes basically in succession. The chromatic note in the lick, Eb, can be seen as being taken from a minor blues scale where it functions as the b5 or blue note. Put this lick and the previous lick together for a great I7 to IV7 change up.
