frank-vignola1. What qualities of the guitar attracted you more than other instruments? Do you play any other instruments?

I loved the sound of Les Paul, Django and Joe Pass records and knew from the age of six I wanted to devote my life to the guitar.

2. What one single bit of advise would you give students with respect to how they can improve their musicianship?

Get gigs!!!! Play in front of people as often as possible. This is where we learn the most about playing. And of course you must practice every day.

3. How long have you been playing and what has been the toughest challenge you’ve faced as a pro guitarist over the years?

I have been playing for 42 years. The toughest challenge is getting work. It is so important to play in front of audiences.

4. Who’s been your biggest influence as a musician? What is the best advice you ever received on your musical journey?

Les Paul. Les always used to tell me, “Play for the people, not for yourself. Play songs and melodies people know.”

5. What projects (recording, educational, touring, etc.) are coming up for you? How should students stay in touch with you?

Students can keep in touch with me through my website, www.frankvignola.com. I am always recording new educational projects and touring. This is the fun for me.
