Watch the Basic Inside Roll Pattern online guitar lesson by Richard Gilewitz from Jump Start Fingerstyle Guitar
Roll patterns are more like banjo patterns than the arpeggios and pinch patterns you’ve learned so far. A roll pattern is basically “thumb/finger/thumb finger.”
For this Inside Roll, the plucking pattern with the right hand is thumb, middle, thumb, index or PMPI. The thumb will alternate between the 5th and 4th strings.
Let’s try it with a C Major chord. It’s always good to practice with a metronome. Start slowly and move up a few clicks at a time to build your speed.
