Watch the Lesson 7 online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Fingerstyle Blues Handbook 2

I got to see Elizabeth Cotton perform before she passed away, and she really did play the guitar upside-down and backwards, which meant that her first string was the low E, her sixth string was the high E, and she picked the bass notes with her fingers and the melody with her thumb. Cotton made her first recordings at the age of 63, becoming a folk-revival favorite, and for an entire generation of fingerpickers, learning her song "Freight Train" was an official right of passage.
