Watch the Lick Study 8 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Beginner Blues-Rock Soloing

I've always loved this one string legato idea ever since I first heard Jimi Hendrix use it in "Machine Gun". He does this in many other tunes, but as I've discussed in some of my other courses, that particular recording from the Band of Gypsys album changed my musical life. We can hear him do similar things to this on "Castles Made of Sand" and "Purple Haze" to name a few. It's also one of those cool techniques that we can do to invoke Jimi's playing in our own playing. Of course that's not to say Hendrix was the only guy to ever do this; that's simply not true. Also, you won't automatically sound like Hendrix by doing this, it's just where I got it from.
