Watch the Legato Exercise 1 online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Beginner Blues-Rock Soloing

This lick is a real staple in blues and rock guitar, especially for the Allman Brothers. This lick not only includes a hammer-on, but a finger roll as well. A finger roll is when we gently flatten out a finger to cover an adjacent string and then slightly lift back up just enough to mute the string we were just playing. Honestly, it sounds way more difficult in this text than it actually is to do, so just look at the video and you'll get it. Practice the dickens out of this one throughout all the pentatonic fingerings to really nail it.
