Watch the Raking In The Jungle online guitar lesson by Fareed Haque from 30 Beginner Jazz Licks You MUST Know
As you can see, we're now combining elements of previous licks and creating new longer licks. This one follows an Abmaj7 or Fm9 arpeggio. Same notes, just named differently depending on which note you call to be the root. In this example, you have chromatic notes connecting the 7th (of Abmaj7) through the 6th on down to the 5th. You can get even crazier with the chromatics by linking the 5th to the 3rd with more chromatic passing notes. You can also play this across four strings, just like our previous "Sweet Rake". As with your other licks, try this one over Abmaj7, Fm7, DØ7 (1/2 Diminished 7 a.k.a. Dm7b5), Bb7, or even E7 altered.
