Watch the Lower Leading Tones online guitar lesson by John Goldsby from Upright Bass Handbook
This exercise uses lower leading tones. The root of each chord is approached from below using either one, two, or three half steps. In order to effectively navigate these three choruses of blues, we need to be aware of our left hand position at all times.
The last chorus, which uses three half steps leading into a root, is a great sounding, classic bassline. Now you're walking a bassline in 4/4, but all you're really thinking about is connecting the roots of each chord on the downbeat of each bar.
