Storytelling - Lick 32 is a video guitar lesson presented by Jasper Mortier and is sourced from 50 Blues Bass Licks You Must Know.
I think of this lick as 'story telling' blues. The I is played with repeated accents with breaks leaving space for the story. The I chord can be a 'long I' - stretching the 12 bar form to a 16 bar - to supply even more time to the story. In old versions there's no bass at all, but normally the bass has got a couple of different licks to choose from as I will show you. When you go the IV you pick up the groove and play a regular shuffle. The tempo is normally a bit faster than a regular slowblues.A more rudimentary version of Hoochie Coochie man is 'I'm gonna ruin you' by Jimmy Reed. Here the accents are merely played by the guitar. The bass and drums keep on going playing a regular groove.
