Watch the Half Notes online guitar lesson by Stu Hamm from Learn Bass 1: First Steps for Beginners
We're going to have to start learning about some notes that have different lengths. Here we have a half note, where each note has two beats. You count them 1-2-3-4, where you play them on the 1 and 3. This is an important step in learning rhythms so we can play bass lines.
We'll start by playing a whole bar of a whole note on E, then two half notes of E. We then move to the A string, playing a whole note, and then two half notes. Keep moving down the neck to the D, playing a whole note and then two half notes, and then move to the G, again playing a whole note and two half notes. From here, we start over, going to back to the E.
