Watch the Jazz Bass Grooves online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Jump Start Bass Guitar

Even though jazz is a very sophisticated and advanced style of music, I decided to give you a taste of how to play walking quarter note jazz bass lines. The two jam tracks included in this lesson are drums only, and drums with rhythm guitar. We will start by playing any note in a straight quarter note rhythm over the drum only track This will get you familiar with the feel of a walking bass line.

Next you will learn how to use the C major scale as a source of information for playing over the track with the rhythm guitar. By starting with just a couple of notes of the scale you will be able to develop your ear so that ultimately you will be able to pre-hear the pitches before you play them.

At your own pace you can gradually add more notes from the scale so that ultimately you are utilizing the entire C major scale. There is additional theory which applies to this approach but for now you are to focus on your ears only.
