Watch the The 7/6 Arpeggio online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Blues Bass

The 7/6 arpeggio is a very useful tool for creating baselines. Diagram 4 shows it laid out on the fingerboard. You will notice that I have not written it with a third string root (meaning shifted over one string group). The bass has a consistent tuning from string to string which allows you to move patterns without any modification. Therefore if you need to root any pattern off the third string, it will look just like the pattern rooted off the fourth string.

Practice playing over the 12 bar blues in G using the 7/6 arpeggio. Because there are five tones in this arpeggio, you will have to delete a tone to play a four beat figure. Another option is to play a two bar phrase which will give you eight beats to create a bassline. This is addressed in the video so pay close attention to this concept.
