Watch the Rock Feel online guitar lesson by Andrew Ford from Blues Bass Survival Guide
In this section we talk about the evolution of the straight 8th rock bass line, how it quite possibly evolved from the blues shuffle. We first look at a boogie woogie style bass line that outlines the triad of each chord. We then straighten that out with the same notes but no shuffle feel and have an early rock and roll style bass line. Then finally there is the concept of just staying on the root of the chord, still playing the straight 8th notes but not outlining the chords and we have a basic present day rock bass line. Blues was at the roots of the development of rock and roll and here you can see the relationship of blues bass and rock bass.
