Now we will add more of those 16th passing notes, as well as some triplet figures that propel the groove. Notice that the 1st note of bar 3 is an E, the chord for that bar is C. This is important because up to this point, we have begun each bar on the root of each chord which would have been C. Since the previous bar ended with an F note, a smooth transition is created by moving down a half step to E to begin the next bar. Connecting notes by a half step or whole step when changing chords helps to create smooth flowing walking bass lines.
