Probably the second most important and useful interval for a Bassist is the 5th. How many Country Bass Players does it take to change a lightbulb? One…Five…One…Five….There is a school of thought that after you learn to play the Root, Fifth and Octave, you really don’t need to learn anything else! Certainly works for bands like Coldplay and U2. So we will learn some basic harmony and what we mean when we say “5th” - it’s the fifth note of the scale! We’ll also learn the archetypal hand position for the Root-Fifth-Octave that will get you through many a gig. These two exercises will help establish a fundamental left hand position that will be the anchor of your playing.
