Watch the The Blues Part 2 online guitar lesson by Stu Hamm from Stu Hamm U: Bass Basics

Continuing on with the blues - here you will see three different types of charts. Although there are some standards, you will find that different musicians have different ways of writing charts, so from my experience here are a few of the different looks you might see.

As a bass player it is your job to hold everything together, and the more prepared you are, the better. The first chart is written using only numbers for the chord changes and is easily transposable. The second chart introduces us to the symbol for common time, or 4/4 and the symbol for a dominant 7th chord and actually names the chords you are to play. The third chart is a minor blues, and we’ll learn how to notate and recognize its symbols.
