Watch the Switching Strings online guitar lesson by Stu Hamm from Stu Hamm U: Bass Basics

Here we have some exercises to help you develop dexterity and proper hand position. We will also be reading music a little faster to make you more comfortable with the process. You’ll need to get used to alternating the index and middle fingers of your right hand to achieve accuracy and eventually speed in playing, and practicing these basic exercises will help build the skills that you will need. I’ll also show you the correct positioning for the left hand, nice and curved with arched fingers so that the notes can ring true and you can develop a clear, even tone. Switching strings isn’t easy at first, but with practice and patience you’ll be able to master it! “Nothing is difficult once you learn how to do it.”
