Watch the Pop Tune online guitar lesson by Stu Hamm from Stu Hamm U: Bass Basics

Pop goes the bass player! And I ‘m not talking Larry Graham here. First I’ll go on a minor rant about the role that the Bass plays in popular music and in music in general, which is to unite and unify the harmony with the rhythm in a supportive fashio and that’s what makes the Bass the coolest and most powerful instrument in the band, no matter what those others say! I’ll talk about how to listen and break down the groove to it’s most basic form. This is where your bass lines will spring from and introduce to the “Dotted Quarter-Eighth” rhythm that is prevalent in Pop Music.

I’ll also play a simple groove and a busy groove and you can (hopefully!) hear which one makes the music sound better which is the point after all!
