Watch the Octaves Part 1 online guitar lesson by Stu Hamm from Stu Hamm U: Bass Basics
Now we start to learn to play different intervals on the Bass, starting with the Octave. The Octave is one of the most basic and useful intervals (an Octave being the same pitch in a higher or lower register), and we’ll learn how to play open note Octaves and learn to play the Octave from anywhere on the neck. This lesson will also start us on basic hand positions that will be the same anywhere you play them on the neck of your Bass. Since the Bass is tuned entirely in 4th’s (unlike a guitar which has a Major 3rd thrown in to confuse things). Once we learn some basic interval-hand positions, we will be able to navigate the entire neck.
