Watch the Philly Sound online guitar lesson by Andrew Ford from 50 R&B Bass Grooves You MUST Know

Here is a lick that pays tribute to the Sound of Philidelphia era. It is a bouncy groove based on "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by Mcfadden and Whitehead. The first quarter note on Bb is short, but not quite staccato, then we start the main melodic phrase that begins on F, the 5, to Ab, the b7 and then back to F. Next we will hammer on into C from Bb and from Ab to Bb. This is where the bass line really sings and is featured. We end that phrase on Ab before moving to bar 2 which straightens out a bit for contrast playing 8th notes over the Cm chord using the notes C, the root, Bb, the b7, back to C and then to the minor 3rd, Eb and then landing on F for the new chord change which is Fm. The last pickup that leads back to the start of the groove is a 16th note run using C, Bb, C, and then lastly B to lead chromatically back to the Bb in bar 1.
