Watch the Evette online guitar lesson by Andrew Ford from 50 R&B Bass Grooves You MUST Know
Here we have a 2 bar groove ala Rufus and Chaka Khan who featured the bass work of Bobby Watson. The leading tones are the feature in this line. After playing the A, it should be played somewhat short, the 1st leading phrase is the A, C#, A phrase that goes to the D chord, then we walk chromatically up to E before going back to A. Next we play a simplified and more spacious phrase that simply goes from A to E before going to D again. Next we add a little twist with the last lead in fill that starts on F# to E and then goes to Bb a note that is not in the chord or scale but just sets up the B that comes next, and then going back to E to complete the phrase.
