Watch the Butterfly online guitar lesson by Andrew Ford from 50 R&B Bass Grooves You MUST Know

Here is a syncopated 16th note groove ala Chaka Khan's "Papillon" played by Willie Weeks. The rhythms need to swing just right against the disco-like groove played by the drums. This is good practice with creating that swing without any help from other instruments. This can be a challenge to create that swing without much help. Our note choices here are pretty much roots and 5ths. We do walk up to the major 3rd over the A chord also playing B, the 2nd in that walk up. The C# in the walk up sets up the F# in the new chord where we play roots and 5ths again as we do in the next 2 chords, our variation in rhythms is what keeps the line interesting.
