Watch the When the Dusk Hits online guitar lesson by Freekbass from 50 Freekbass Licks You MUST Know
I always strive to not only make my basslines rhythmically sound, but also melodic. I have worked with many horn players, and a lot of times when you see them put togetehr a new part onsite, they are both concentrating on which notes to use, but also how to articulate each note. I try and take that approach on most of my bass lines. Once I get a basic rhythmic feel, I try and put the notes together in a way that creates a memorable melody.
With this line I am playing up the neck a bit around the 12th fret. As well as playing the notes which I will show you now, I am trying to make the line breathe by not fully pressing down on each note, again with a bit of bounce, but still with my right hand, attacking the string so the notes punch.
