Watch the 5th in Line online guitar lesson by Freekbass from 50 Freekbass Licks You MUST Know
On this lick I start a 16th note rhythm using an up and downstroke double thumb technique. I am alternating between a C and a C# on my A string leading to the low G on my E string. I am using a lot of palm muting too to make the feel tight and dampened. I alternate the points where I pull my hand up and down with my palm so the 16th notes breathe a bit.
Like a good portion of my basslines, this groove both in notes and rhythm were dictated to me by what the drum beat was doing. I am always first thinking "where can I fit into this space, if at all?" Not forcing the bassline, but hopefully using it to enhance what the groove is already doing.
