This lick is rooted in the B blues scale. The tempo is pretty up, so I wanted to create a funky, yet frantic line with a bit of horror-billy influence. In a lot of rockabilly bands that use upright bass players I have always been fascinated about how they use the entire bass as part of the rhythm, the fingerboard, hitting the body of the bass, the sound of the strings crackling up against the neck - it all creates one strong rhythmic force.
With this line, even the first pop/pluck is not an actual note, but the sound of me pulling my G string while muting it at the same time. I then do a run thumping a blues scale run, go back to the original root note (B) into a flat 5 run. It ends with a very upbeat frantic fill with hard pops/plucks at each end.
