Watch the Ride the Bump online guitar lesson by Freekbass from 50 Freekbass Licks You MUST Know
This starts off with some double-thumping on the F# on the D strong (4th fret) creating that James Brown kind of rhythm guitar feel, but on that note, I am using a palm mute to give and take on the dampening of each hit. I end the phrase with a plucking fill. I then move the exact groove up to the seventh fret on the D string to an A.
Really experiment with your palm muting on this lick to create different tones and feels. You can even turn some of the hits to ghost notes. Again, very important that you keep the attack with your right hand thumb strong and steady. Make sure you make all of the hits you do with your thumb even and strong.
