Watch the Expressive Blues Note Ideas online guitar lesson by Andy Timmons from Electric Expression: Blues
One of the things that I’m most excited about with this course is that I had to break down the components of the things that I’ve been doing for years. It’s been fun analyzing how I refer to the guitar neck and how I play.
Much of blues is played in A, a lot of it using the A minor pentatonic scale. One of the keys to playing this way is knowing the root—or the tonic note—of the scale. By using this note and the other A notes on the neck, you can plug in any simple short phrase and make it work.
