Watch the Bluesy Double Stops online guitar lesson by Andy Timmons from Electric Expression: Blues
We’ll start out with looking at some rhythm playing concepts. I can’t stress enough how important rhythm playing is to lead playing—playing rhythm strengthens your notion of time and teaches you where to place your part in the time structure. When comping you want to fill out the harmony, but not get in the way of what’s happening at the front whether with the singer or the lead guitar player.
In this lesson, we’ll go over several different voicing options for blues comping. I’ll show you how to turn simple ideas into more expressive parts that sound fuller and more colorful, but allow room for others to play.
