Watch the SECTION 1: Essential Concepts online guitar lesson by Andy Timmons from Electric Expression: Blues
Hello everybody, I’m Andy Timmons and welcome to Electric Expression: Blues. The blues is such a huge part of popular music, being the foundation for genres like country, jazz, and rock. Blues is a great place to start playing guitar because the basics are easy, however it takes a lifetime to master. I’ve found that the journey has been the most amazing part! There’s been several players that have been a huge influence on my playing from all different genres that are steeply rooted in the blues: rock guitarists like Ace Frehley and Joe Satriani, blues and jazz players such as Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, as well as country guitar players like Danny Gatton, and Albert Lee.
I’m very excited to have put this blues course together for you. We’ve separated the course into two sections, the first of which focuses on 14 essential concepts for playing the blues. We’ll look at topics such as rhythm guitar playing, note choices, and motif development for soloing among others.
In the second section, I will show you 6 playing examples to draw everything that we’ve learned together. In each of these playing examples I will play the part and then break it down for you step-by-step. Each key example in this course is also tabbed and notated for you, including jam tracks so you can play along at home. Alright, plug-in your guitars and let’s dig in to Electric Expression: Blues!
