Frequently used R&B chords, 9ths have a smokey mood and simple shapes that move around the neck easily. Experiment with the high outside shapes on the top 4 strings and the midrange shape on the middle 4.
You can speed it up and add some funk to them - a syncopated #9th has that Average White Band feel.
