Watch the Slap Happy online guitar lesson by Matthieu Brandt from Slap, Frail, & Thump
Slap Happy is another 16th groove that uses the pedal A string to glue all the chords together. We're in the key of Am and we're using a capo on the 3rd fret. It's quite an intense energy driven feel with parts that have a palm slap on every beat.
In pop and rock music we tend to use accents on beat 2 and 4, like we've done in all the previous songs. Doubling those accents will give a chorus or bridge a nice boost but unless you want to play hard rock it's best not to overuse this technique. It will also put some strain on your hand and palm so be careful not to beat the guitar too hard or you'll hurt yourself.
The Jam button will play you Example 101.
