Watch the Dividing Down and Up Strokes online guitar lesson by Massimo Varini from Pop Guitar Survival Guide

Once you're able to think in sixteenths it is important to begin to change the sound of our rhythm. We will be able to play the downstroke more on the bass and strum the upstroke more on the higher strings, we would then be able to switch at will these two sounds with the sound of all the strings played quickly simultaneously. At this point all the rhythm becomes more fluid, less rigid and more pleasant to listen to, less repetitive!
