Watch the Open & Melodic online guitar lesson by Peppino D'Agostino from Acoustic Poetica: Fingerstyle Etudes
This is quite an unusual open tuning that I learned a while ago from one of my students. In this etude, the melody is carried out by the 1st and 2nd string. It's very important to play the bass/accompaniment notes softly so that the melody can be in the forefront.
Please note that in measure 3 your index finger plays a partial bar on the 3rd fret of the 6th and 5th string by bending its 1st phalanx.
For students that are not very used to open tunings, it will feel strange at first to play this etude, because the notes that they hear would be situated in different locations if they were playing in standard tuning. For this reason, it's natural to feel a little bit disoriented at first, but as you practice more and more, you'll start relying on finger memory and sound and everything will start making sense.
