Watch the Weehawken online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from New School Fingerstyle

The double-stop licks in the third chorus of "Weehawken or Bust" are a combination of the riff from "Back at the Chicken Shack," organist Jimmy McGriff's codification of a classic blues move, and a cool hammeron/pulloff sound I lifted from the vocabulary of Strat master Ronnie Earl. Slipping your left-hand thumb over the top of the neck to grab a bass note is a technique with a lengthy pedigree; if it's good enough for Tal Farlow, Chet Atkins and Dave Van Ronk, it's good enough for me.
