Watch the Baker's Dozen online guitar lesson by Muriel Anderson from Innovations for Acoustic Guitar
Playing in 13/8 time is common in Bulgarian folk music, but perhaps a little different for most of us. The music was inspired by eating Greek food, and some of the recipes may even be found on the "Recipes From the Road" section of my website www.murielanderson.com
The rhythm is broken up consistently in groups of eighth notes with the accent on the first note of the group: 3, 4, 3, 3, or 3, 2, 2, 3, 3. You can think of the group of three eighth notes as a slow beat and the little group of two eighth notes as a quick beat, just like you might take a slow step or a quick step.
