Watch the Elephant's Dance online guitar lesson by Stephen Bennett from Harp Guitar Repertoire
I needed a variation for the second verse and so I did what I often do when composing and in this situation: try another octave. Sometimes I go higher, as I did here, and sometimes I find, particularly with harp guitar, that going lower gives me something interesting. Because changing the octave often puts a melody on different strings, different melodic ideas suggest themselves to me. A note might call out for a hammer-on or pull-off in one octave whereas it did not in the original, etc.
